Last Wednesday marked the successful conclusion of our intensive 2-day In-Person Project Plenary Meeting! A big thank you to Zoltán Horvárth and the Széchenyi István University (SZE) for being such incredible hosts and bringing the consortium together in Győr, Hungary.
Over the two days (June 30 – July 1), led by our coordinator Marcin Lawenda, our partners engaged in discussions to streamline our workflows and maximise the real-world impact of the hashtag#HiDALGO2 outcomes. Abdullatif Eymash and Luis Torres Michelena paved the path by sharing updates and the roadmap for the technical and scientific management of the project.
Key Highlights & Sessions from the Meeting
– The 5 Environmental hashtag#Pilots: Our key researchers Zoltán Horvárth, Vincent Chabannes, Michal Kulczewski, David Caballero Valero and Ravi Kiran Ayyala Somayajula provided updates on our core use cases—Urban Air Pollution, Urban Buildings (Ktirio), Renewable Energy Sources, Wildfires, and Material Transport in Water—tracking computational advancements and high precision.
– AI & Data Analytics Implementation: Led by Dimitrios Tsoumakos and Giorgos Stamou, the team shared updates on aligning ΑΙ methodologies and data workflows to achieve faster-than-real-time predictive capabilities. Many thanks to the contributors Nikos Chalvatzis, Michal Kulczewski, Aleksandra Krasicka, Harald Köstler, George Filandrianos and Angeliki Dimitriou.
– Advisory Board Insights: Our coordinator welcomed our Advisory Board to review project milestones, business plans, and strategic recommendations for the upcoming periods. Many thanks to our advisory board members joining online and Guy Lonsdale in the room for his valuable comments!
– Outreach & Exploitation Roadmap: Led by Kyriaki Daskaloudi, Lucienne Dettki and Georgia Nikolakopoulou, we mapped out our long-term sustainability paths, training plans, and the upcoming dissemination campaigns to bridge the gap between complex science and actual impact.
As we advance through the final phases of the project, Konstantinos Nikas shared updates and next steps on the exascale support, Jesús Gorroñogoitia on the central data management system and Kornyei Laszlo on the dashboard and service offerings of HiDALGO2.
Last but not least, we had the chance to see impressive advanced visualisations for all pilots and Qifeng Pan and Shubham Kavane discussed uncertainty qualification and ensemble scenarios.
