Urban Air Project Use Case in European Cities
HiDALGO2 have signed letters of cooperation with four European cities: Győr, Illkirch, Poznań, and Stuttgart. By cooperating with these cities, HiDALGO2 aims to put into practice one of its use cases, Urban Air Project. Urban Air Project aims to reach pre-exascale performance by running a single simulation on 250,000 cores and ensemble simulations for uncertainty quantification on 475,000 cores.
Cooperation Agreement with SLB-Analys
After a successful meeting with NCC Sweden and SLB-Analys, a company associated with the Stockholm Municipality, both parties have shown interest in cooperation in the development of simulation models and the use of HiDALGO services. A cooperation agreement is signed for this purpose.
SEAVEA
HiDALGO2 project started collaborating with the SEAVEA project last year with the first online meeting and workshop. Our joint activities continue with a joint hackathon that focuses on enabling Verification, Validation, and Uncertainty Quantification (VVUQ) for HPC simulations using the SEAVEA toolkit (SEAVEAtk). It will take place physically at the premises of our partner, High-Performance Computing Center Stuttgart , Germany.

CASTIEL
HiDALGO2 partners from PSNC and HLRS joined the kick-off meeting of CASTIEL2 from February 7th to February 9th at Filderhalle in Leinfelden-Echterdingen, near Stuttgart. Later on, our coordinator joined the panel of the “Open workshop: Centres of Excellence & Competence Centres” for a discussion on the EuroCC 2, CASTIEL 2 and CoE ecosystems and presented our project.

BDVA
The first step in HiDALGO2’s cooperation with the Big Data Value Association was held in a meeting in 2023. During the discussion with the Task Force “Integration and Convergence HPC – Big Data – Artificial Intelligence” working group of the Big Data Value Association HiDALGO2 project coordinator, Marcin Lawenda, presented the main areas of our project’s activities. The presentation focused on aspects related to managing large amounts of data, data analytics, and AI implementations.
EXCELLERAT
SIAM CSE23 conference took place between February 2023, in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, which included a joint mini-symposium of HiDALGO2 and EXCELLERAT P2 CoE of the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking. Later in the year, a workshop on Uncertainty Quantification was organised by HiDALGO2, SEAVEA, and CIRCE in November.

NumPEx
On November 8, 2023, Vincent Chabannes (Research Engineer – University of Strasbourg / Cemosis) and Christophe Prud’homme (Professor in Applied Mathematics at the University of Strasbourg/ Cemosis/partner at HiDALGO2) presented at the Exa-DI workshop ( a project of the NumPEx programme) on Efficient Discretization@Exascale, the HiDALGO2 Urban Building Pilot and in particular the challenges we face to reach exascale computing from the discretisation point of view.
