On October 22nd, the VI Technical Conference on Wildfire Fighting took place at the Forest Fire Area headquarters of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) in Spain. The event was organized by the Spanish Association of Fire Protection Industries (Tecnifuego), the Professional Association of Fire Technicians (APTB), and the Spanish Association for Firefighting (ASELF). The conference’s general theme, “New Challenges: The Risk of Wildfires in a Changing Climate and Social Landscape,” attracted numerous wildfire suppression professionals in Spain, risk analysts, and civil protection technicians who participated in the meeting.
\David Caballero (MeteoGrid) presented the latest advances in supercomputing and wildfire simulation within the framework of the HiDALGO2 project and how these can help understand and guide preventive planning in the face of new climate and social challenges.
The event was opened by Mr. Antonio Tortosa, Vice President of Tecnifuego, and María Torres, Deputy Director of Forestry Policy and Desertification Control at MITECO, followed by an introduction to the 2024 wildfire season by Mr. Rafael Gómez del Álamo, Head of the Forest Fire Defense Area at MITECO.
This conference established valuable connections with future stakeholders who can utilize the results, products, and services of the Hidalgo2 project.
